Lightning Lanes Explained

In a nutshell:a Lightning Lane is Disney's paid “skip the line.” Instead of waiting in the free standby queue, you pay to enter a much shorter Lightning Lane and get on the ride sooner. There are three ways to buy it.

The three passes

Disney sells Lightning Lane access as three separate products. You'll usually only use one:

Multi Pass

~$15–39 / person / day
The everyday option. You pre-book up to 3 rides with arrival windows, then keep adding more one at a time as you use them. Covers most Lightning Lane rides in a park — but not the very biggest headliners.

Single Pass

~$12–24 / ride
Also called Individual Lightning Lane. A one-off purchase for a single top headliner (like Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage or TRON) that isn't included in Multi Pass. You can buy up to 2 per day. In QueueFairy these show as a Single badge.

Premier Pass

~$129–449 / person / day
The premium, big-spender option. One tap-in to every Lightning Lane ride in a park, with no arrival windows to book and no return times to manage. Limited quantity and pricey.

How Multi Pass actually works

This is the part that confuses everyone. It's a loop, not a one-time purchase:

  1. Buy Multi Pass for the day, then pick your first 3 rides and their return windows.
  2. When your window opens, walk up and tap in at the Lightning Lane entrance.
  3. As soon as you tap in (or your window arrives), you can book another ride — one at a time, for the rest of the day.
  4. Repeat. There's no daily cap on how many you rack up — just how fast the day moves.

A return window is your arrival slot, e.g. 10:15–11:15 AM — show up any time inside it. QueueFairy shows the next available window as a Next badge on each ride.

Tier 1 vs Tier 2

For your first 3 Multi Pass picks, Disney splits rides into two tiers. You can choose at most one Tier 1 ride (the popular ones) plus two Tier 2rides. After you've used those and start re-booking, the tier limit no longer applies.

When can you book?

  • Staying at a Disney hotel — book up to 7 days before check-in, for your whole trip at once.
  • Everyone else — book up to 3 days before your visit.

Booking opens at 7:00 AM, and popular rides and cheaper prices sell out fast — so booking the moment your window opens matters. Prices also change day to day based on how busy the park is.

What QueueFairy's badges mean

  • Next 10:15–11:15 — the next Multi Pass return window available for that ride.
  • Single $22 — this ride is a paid Single Pass, with its current price.
  • Sold Out — no more Lightning Lane return times for that ride today (more open up when the park next reopens).
